Dear Devonshire Families,
Our students continue to work hard, and we are encouraged by the strong pattern of attendance across our school. Thank you for helping your children arrive ready to learn and connect with their classmates each day!
This week’s Devonshire Vision highlight features students learning foundational measurement and data concepts together. By sharing ideas, listening to classmates, and helping one another build understanding, students bring “Everyone Belongs” to life.
As the weather gets colder, please send your children with warm clothing and encourage them to dress in layers. We are outside for recess, arrival, and dismissal whenever the “feels like” temperature is above 15°F, with precipitation also factored into outdoor decisions.
We look forward to more great learning ahead!

Parents arrive at 1:45 on Friday, October 30, 2026
If you do not want your child to participate in the Costume Parade and/or the classroom party, please let your child’s teacher know directly, and they will have other activities to do with Ms. Connelly in the Library.
INFORMATION AND EXPECTATIONS:
The costume guidelines must be adhered to in order for us to have a safe, fun day:
- Students are not allowed to wear costumes to school. They will have time to change into their costumes before the costume parade. Students who arrive in costume will be asked to change into their extra set of clothes or will need to have a parent/guardian bring an extra set of clothes if none are available at school.
-
No face cover (e.g. paint, masks, bandanas, etc) can be worn while in school to ensure the proper identification of all students, staff, and guests.
- Items representing weapons are not allowed. Anything even resembling a weapon will be confiscated and parents will need to pick up the item after school.
- Costumes depicting blood or promoting gore are not allowed. (If in doubt, check with your child’s teacher or the school office).
- Any hair preparations need to be completed at home. Students will not be allowed to color their own hair at school.
If your child is someone who is in need of a costume, please contact your child’s teacher or the main office so that we can work to provide an option.
PARENT PARTICIPATION:
- 1:45pm Parent Arrival
- 2:00pm Parade Start
Parents are welcome and encouraged to join us for the parade. We have plenty of staff who can help your child with their costume; no parents are allowed or needed to come in to assist with putting on costumes. Only PTA room parents will be allowed to participate in the room parties.
If the weather is:
-
Good: The parade route will happen on the playground on the blacktop in front of the playground equipment. Parents will be lined up on the outer edge of the Blacktop. Students will make a pass around the entire playground.
-
Inclement: The parade route will happen inside the building. Parents will be lined up in the gym around the outer edge. Students will follow the inside court lines.
- Parents will enter Door # 2 (left of the main entrance) to line the gym
- Parents will exit Door # 2 at the conclusion of the parade.

Throughout October, Devonshire students will learn about kindness, inclusion, respect, and standing up for others as we recognize Bullying Prevention Month. As One Pod, our classrooms will engage with a shared text, All Are Welcome, and activities that reinforce our commitment to ensuring everyone belongs and feels safe. Here is a link to the read-aloud for you to enjoy with your families.

Grade levels and individual classes continue to achieve their goals and earn rewards. Keep up the good work, and keep getting to school on time every day!
Also, Don't forget about Secret Attendance Day in October! One day in October, the normal lunchroom will turn into The Dazzling Diner, with music and other fun surprises for students who attend that day. Be sure to come every day in October so you don't miss the Dazzling Diner!
|
At the end of this week, you will receive a ParentSquare message for each state assessment that was taken in Spring of 2026. You will receive a parent report for the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) for both English Language Arts and Math for any student who was between 3rd and 8th grade in the spring of last year. Keep an eye out for that message!
|
Please encourage students to check our ever-growing lost and found at the front of the school, or stop by before or after school to see if your family is missing any personal belongings. If clothes aren't picked up by Thanksgiving break, we will donate them. Thank you!

TARDY TO SCHOOL: If your child arrives to school after 8:40 a.m, you must escort your child into the main entrance and sign them into school for the day. The sign-in sheet will also include the reason for the tardiness.
PLAYGROUND: While we encourage families to enjoy our community play space after school hours, the park and playground are closed to the public during school hours from 8:25 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 8:25 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Monday. This rule is grounded in student safety, and we appreciate your cooperation in enforcing this safety measure.

Click here to see a map and detailed directions for picking up and dropping off. Students should be dropped off between 8:30-8:37 a.m. If you arrive after 8:40 a.m., please park and bring your child to the main entrance.
