It has been another couple of great weeks at Devonshire! Our Dolphins continue to work hard, learn together, and show what it means to be One Pod. On the topic of One Community, we especially enjoyed seeing our kindergarten students and families come together at this week’s Kindergarten Social as seen in the picture.
A couple of calendar reminders: There is no school this Friday for students due to our Staff Institute Day. We also have another four day weekend next week, with no school on Friday, October 9th for Parent Teacher conferences and no school on Monday, October 12, in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Families should have received information about signing up with their teachers for parent-teacher conference from classroom teachers this week. This document explains how to navigate the sign-up posts on ParentSquare . Please reach out to the office if you have any other questions.

Grade levels and individual classes continue to achieve their goals and earn rewards. Keep up the good work, and keep getting to school on time every day!
Also, Don't forget about Secret Attendance Day in October! One day in October, the normal lunchroom will turn into The Dazzling Diner, with music and other fun surprises for students who attend that day. Be sure to come every day in October so you don't miss the Dazzling Diner!

Throughout October, Devonshire students will learn about kindness, inclusion, respect, and standing up for others as we recognize Bullying Prevention Month. As One Pod, our classrooms will engage with a shared text, All Are Welcome, and activities that reinforce our commitment to ensuring everyone belongs and feels safe. Here is a link to the read-aloud for you to enjoy with your families.
🧡 Unity Day is Wednesday, October 21! We encourage all Dolphins to wear orange as we unite for belonging and inclusion and stand together against bullying.

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, Skokie 68 is conducting Perception Surveys to gather feedback from students, families, and staff about their experiences in our schools.
Your parent/guardian feedback will help us identify areas for recognition and improvement and support the goals of our 2026–2031 Strategic Plan. Survey results will also establish baseline data and help us measure our progress, including our goal of strengthening the sense of belonging among students, families, and staff.
The survey is anonymous and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Complete the Parent/Guardian Perception Survey:
NOTE: Students in Grades 3-8 will also complete a Student Perception Survey during the school day.
The student survey is also anonymous and will not ask students for personal information. Parents/guardians may review the survey below to see what students will be asked.
Review the Student Perception Survey:
Thank you for sharing your perspective and partnering with us as we listen, learn, and use feedback to make meaningful improvements for our students, families, and staff.

In 2013, Illinois passed Erin’s Law (House Bill 6193), which requires all schools to provide age-appropriate lessons on sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention for students in Pre-K through 12th grade. These lessons are designed to help children learn how to stay safe and protect themselves.
To support this important work, our District Social Workers and Health/PE teachers will provide developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with state learning standards. This instruction will focus on giving children practical tools to recognize unsafe situations and know what to do. Topics include:
- Understanding safe vs. unsafe touches
- Following safety rules at home and school
- Learning how to say “NO”
- Knowing the difference between safe and unsafe secrets
- Understanding that abuse is never the child’s fault
- Telling a trusted adult if something happens
Students will receive instruction in the classroom setting between October 5th through November 20th, 2026.
Opt-Out Option:
If you prefer that your child does not participate in this program, please complete the Curriculum Objection Form by October 5th, 2026.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe.

Drop off and pick up occur on Kenneth Avenue. Please only stop at the playground entrance closest to Davis. For the safety of our students, please do not double park, do not park on the side of the street with the houses, and stay in a single line. Students will line up according to grade level. Click here to see a map and detailed directions for picking up and dropping off.
Students should be dropped off between 8:30-8:37 a.m. If you arrive after 8:40 a.m., please park and bring your child to the main entrance. Please note that if the weather is bad (under 10 degrees with windchill, rain, or wet/blowing snow), students will come into the school building beginning at 8:30 a.m.
3rd - 5th grade students can walk home or walk to a parent in a parked car, if they have a signed permission slip. If you choose, you may submit this permission slip to your child’s teacher.

Breakfast: Breakfast will be served daily from 8:25 a.m. - 8:35 a.m. Students may enter through door 8 for breakfast. A staff member will be there to greet students starting at, but not before, 8:25. There is no early drop-off unless you are registered for SPACE. No student may enter the building for breakfast after 8:35 a.m. Parents must pay for breakfast through their Infinite Campus account unless they qualify for meal benefits.
Lunch: Students may choose to bring lunch from home or receive a school lunch. We will provide hot lunches through our provider, Organic Life. Parents must pay for lunch through their Infinite Campus account unless they qualify for meal benefits.

SCHOOL HOURS: Students are escorted into the building at 8:37 a.m. daily. School on Mondays runs 8:40 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and Tuesdays-Fridays are 8:40 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
TARDY TO SCHOOL: If your child arrives to school after 8:40 a.m, you must escort your child into the main entrance and sign them into school for the day. The sign-in sheet will also include the reason for the tardiness.
PLAYGROUND: While we encourage families to enjoy our community play space after school hours, the park and playground are closed to the public during school hours from 8:25 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 8:25 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Monday. This rule is grounded in student safety, and we appreciate your cooperation in enforcing this safety measure.
ATTENDANCE: If your child will be absent, you must report the absence including the reason for the absence. If your child has a medical appointment and will come in late or leave early from school, we ask that you report that information as well. Absences or early/late arrivals due to appointments may be communicated through the Parent Portal or you may call the Attendance Line at (847) 568-4996.
