This was one of the best starts to a school year I've experienced. There were some nervous students who were met by encouraging adults. Did some students zig when the should have zagged to their next class? Yes, but the adults in the building got them where they needed to go. Overall, I was very impressed with the kids and the staff. A very smooth start which I know has a lot to do with the way you prepared your students for the first day of school. Thank you!!
E-bikes Not Allowed
Students are not allowed to ride their E-bikes to school. If they do, we will make them aware of the district policy that prohibits E-bikes on school grounds. If they ignore our initial conversation and ride their bike to school again, we will keep the bike until a parent or guardian can pick it up from school. This is a district policy that is completely tied to our desire to ensure students are safe on school grounds and safe getting to and from school.
Day 2 Focus: Student Pickup
As I mentioned above, you all did a great job preparing your kids for the first day of school. Now I need you to prepare for student pick-up tomorrow IF you use the car lane to pick up your child at the end of the school day.
Tuesday through Friday Old Orchard student pickup will overlap with student pickup at the new Early Childhood Center (ECC) to one degree or another. ECC pickup starts at 2:45 pm and Old Orchard pickup starts at 3 pm. There will be staff outside during pickup tomorrow in order to make sure cars move safely and efficiently through the horseshoe drive. The main thing OOJH families need to prepare for is 1) stopping at the stop sign where ECC traffic merges with Old Orchard traffic and 2) staying to the right of the horseshoe drive because ECC families will pass the Old Orchard pickup line on the left in order to exit the parking lot.
